Retreating

Thanks for all the input on my last post. The discussion was phenomenal! Now I’m retreating the rest of the month (first for a girl’s-only weekend with friends then with my manuscripts). So I won’t be blogging. However, if you leave a message after the beep… er… post… I will still be visiting your blogs.

And just because I hope every writer saw this, check out part of J. K. Rowling’s interview with Oprah. Please leave me a note about what you think of it!

(My opinion--because I always have one--I thought Rowling was open and down to earth while Oprah came across as cocky.)

  1. Who exactly is being interviewed here? Oprah is waaay too in love with herself. I would've liked to hear more about J.K. Rowling and her approach to the next book instead of Oprah and her feeling about the network and so on.

Have a great girls only weekend. I'll miss your posts.

  2. Haha @Theresa...

I think J.K. is completely fascinating. Have a fun retreat!

  3. The best thing out of the interview is the hint that JK Rowling is gonna be writing maybe another Potter novel!!!!

    Enjoy your retreat! Take care

  4. I hadn't watched Oprah for a few years, but I saw a few shows when I was back in Canada recently and she really turned me off. Ugh. Same goes for this interview!

    Have a good retreat!

  6. Wow, that was a great interview! I do agree that J.K. seemed really genuine. I've never really been a fan of Oprah so there's that...

  7. I loved the J.K. Rowling interview! She's an amazing writer, woman, mother. She's super classy, and I hope we see more interviews with her in the future! I loved how J.K. aimed some of the questions at Oprah, too! It's not something people normally do, and I could tell Oprah was a little surprised. J.K. is awesome!

I think Oprah is fabulous, too! It's part of the job and people getting interviewed expect pushiness. It's a job I know I'd never want because I couldn't ask such nosey and personal questions. You have to be able to detach yourself from the emotional aspects of an interview to be a journalist or talk show host in order to get the story, that's for sure!

  8. Have a great time! Really enjoyed the interview - J.K. Rowling and Oprah, two of my faves, so nice to see them together. I loved how they asked each other questions instead of it just being a one-way street. I'm off to watch all of this now - thanks for posting it!

  13. I'm so glad you posted this interview. I didn't like Oprah at all. She kept cutting J.K. off and talking for her. It was icky. I'd like to see a REAL interview of J.K. - she's extraordinary.

    Enjoy your retreat!

  15. While I usually do enjoy Oprah, I find that she sometimes inturpts her guests doesn't she? JK Rowling was great I think! :)

Have fun on your retreat and enjoy your time away ~ but please hurry back! :)

  16. Ummm... that would be interrupts rather then inturpts... :[

  17. JKR was great but I did sense that Oprah was a little too focused on herself when her viewers just wanted to learn more about JKR. I still have the whole show on dvr and waiting for a chance to see it!

  18. Have a great hiatus! I didn't see the interview before, so I enjoyed that. J.K. Rowling is amazing.

  19. I think JK is as wise as she is pretty (which I never think of her as pretty - smart, brilliant, yes - but she was gorgeous in this interview!). :)

  20. I love what Rowling says about love. Also discovered her speech at Harvard's 2008 commencement. Amazing!

  21. I didn't see this interview! That was interesting how the whole interview switched, and I agree with Theresa, "who's interviewing who?"

Enjoy your time away, and we'll see you when you get back!

  22. Hi Jackee! Enjoy your time off! :) Thanks for sharing this interview. I love JK Rowling and I'm hoping she will write more books! Hopefully another Harry Potter :)

  23. I haven't watched Oprah since the 90's. I started to find that show and other talk shows unbearable.

I didn't realize before how pretty Rowling is.

    Enjoy your time off.

  24. Wow! I love what JK had to say (when she got the chance! :))

Her comments on love & 911 & having to write are phenomenal!!

  25. I hope you'll have a great time away!

I personally loved the interview. I don't much opinion about Oprah, but I've always been a Rowling fan. :)

  27. Oprah always comes across as cocky, no big surprise there. And truly, she has a lot about which to BE cocky! Interesting to see what Rowling is able to do next...beyond Harry Potter.

Hope your weekend-with-your-book went well! Looking forward to your stop on my blog next weekend!

  28. Sorry I had to stop for another comment, JK Rowling and Oprah are basically sharing a bonding moment over something absolutely no one else or 0.00001% of the population ever experiences - a phenomena that catapults them to riches and fame beyond our comprehension. It's just kind of cruel to have that kind of bonding moment on TV where none of the rest of us can relate! But I guess it helps us understand their unique position better :) just shaking my head!

  31. I love both of these women and can't wait to see what the next chapter holds. I didn't find Oprah very cocky and JK was as always so relate-able.

    Have a great girls weekend.
